Last Monday we held the exhibition of our Winter Painting Challenge pictures based on images supplied by Bury Photographic Society.  There were 25 pictures entered and attendance was excellent with 53 members and guests there, 12 of whom had come from Bury Photographic Society. Thank you to everyone who was involved in any way, you all made it a great evening!

The first place was Catherine Shield who won a watercolour block and small selection of Jackmans watercolours. Second place taken by Bruce Myers who won a Windsor and Newton sketching set and a pad of assorted multi-media paper. For further details on the vote, and to see all the comments left by voters, please see the attached information sheet.

At the end of the evening members were invited to take any other BPS images they wanted to work from without the pressure of having to create a picture from a random one.  If you did take a picture and would like to know the title of it, please see the attached sheet which gives the titles corresponding to the number on the back of the photograph.

Some of our members who are in the Facebook group are unsure how to post their pictures.  Catherine has put together a handy guide to remind us all how to post to the group.  Please find it attached.

Programme 2026

March 16th Week 46

This session is one of our regular life-drawing session.  Unless otherwise stated, the model is always dressed.

This week we will welcome back Emilia as our model, huge thanks to Emilia.  Emilia has regularly posed for us before, the last time in January at very short notice when our pre-arranged model was unable to attend

As usual the poses will be split into four 20-minute sessions. You may sit as close to the model as you like and of course you can move to a different position after each 20 minutes if you wish to get a different view of the model.

We will also have a coffee break after the second session; it would be most helpful if you took your drink back into the main room once you have made it, as we are all trying to make a drink at the same time it will give everyone an opportunity to get one.

As before when we’ve had a model, we won’t be using the tables. Instead, if you have one, you are welcome to bring an easel, otherwise we will use the chair backs or sketch on our knees. This is to ensure everybody has a good view of the model and to be easily able to change position if you want to.

If you prefer, you are also welcome to sit on the floor.

The fee for this session is £3 for Bury Art Society members but non-members are also welcome.

The fee for non-members is £5.

So that people can come in and get settled instead of paying when you arrive, please pay Bev at the first break. If you would like to pay by bank transfer in advance – as you can your subs – instead of in cash that would be fine too.

We will start at 6.45pm promptly.

Your task this week is to sketch Emilia.

If the model agrees, and I remember, I will try to take some decent photographs for members who cannot attend the session and email these out (I hope on Tuesday) so you can still sketch the model (or work further on sketches begun on Monday).

Time of task.  1 week

Suggested materials:

Your choice of sketching materials.

An easel or a board to rest on if you want to use one.
