Hi Everybody,
 
Here is your programme for next Monday, this one is about pets (they don't have to be ones you've really had!).
 
There are two local opportunities to show your work:
 
The first has been found by Catherine Shield, you may have already seen it in the Facebook group. I have attached the flyer.
 
A friend of mine's young daughter has been involved in organising this local art competition. They’ve extended the deadline to end of July. I was hoping some of you maybe you might be interested in entering
 
HELMSHORE MUSEUM MAKERS ART COMPETITION
 
The Helmshore Museum Makers would like to invite the whole community to create original artwork inspired by the harmony or contrast between nature and industry. Submissions will be judged by the youth group and then a selection will be displayed at the museum for public voting.
 
Submissions should be no larger than A3 but can be in any style. These can be sent or handed in to the museum and will be organised by age categories: 6-8, 9-12, 13-16 and 17+
 
Please include your name, age, and contact email with your submission. If sending via post please include a return address.
Deadline for submission is 31st July 2026.
The exhibition will open for the summer.

The second I mentioned last week, Art in Whitefield are holding an Art on a Postcard open exhibition. Full details of how to enter can be found on their website https://artinwhitefield.org/art-on-a-postcard/
 
There are actually three opportunities because next week 27th July we will be having our Summer Social and display of our work done over the last year.
 
  1. Please bring an item of food or drink to share, you don't have to bring much as there will be plenty to go round as everyone brings something. For example, one quiche (or one bottle of wine!)
  2. Please also bring one or two pictures inspired by the last year's programme. I will have stands for approximately one picture each, but if you have your own that would help. Attached is a list of the topics and models we have had (including this Monday's 'Pet' topic). Please put your name on your picture and if possible which topic it represents. There aren't any prizes I'm afraid, it's just so that we can see what we've all been up to, as often things are started on Monday evenings, but we never see the final result.
  3. If you haven't done anything inspired by the programme, please bring anything else you have done over the last year - or just come along and see what other members have done.
  4. Doug Hutton who did the pastel demonstration last week has again kindly donated his pictures to be raffled at the social, proceeds to the Society. Tickets will be £1 each.
  5. It will be a social evening so if you want to bring a friend - you are very welcome.
 
Lastly, following our last model drawing session Andy Clark wanted to know if members would like a more varied length of pose, rather than the current format of 2*20-minutes of the same pose repeated with 2*20-minutes of a different pose after the tea-break. Many of you have already responded but if you haven't yet and would like to, just reply YES if you would like to try a mixed format (2*5-minute poses, a 10-minute pose, a 20-minute pose, then break followed by 2*20 minutes in the same pose) or NO if you would like to keep the current set-up.
